"Little Orphan Annie" was rescured from a home where she was not receiving proper care...read more - Calves to spend their short lives chained inside 22” x 56” crates fed an unnatural and unhealthy all-liquid diet;
- Piglets to be killed by being swung against a solid object (like a wall);
- Sows to be confined to indoor gestational crates, unable to exercise or even turn around;
- Hens, housed in highly restrictive battery cages, to starved of light and food for 12 days to increase egg production.
These are not extreme instances of mistreated livestock, they are everyday practices endorsed by the Canadian government.
The Canadian Farm Animal Care Trust (“CanFACT”) works with reputable animal welfare groups to achieve common goals. We educate and encourage all levels of government, the farming industry and the consumer public to develop and implement regulations and standards to protect these animals from unnecessary suffering from birth to the packing plant.
